SAICS BRIAN J. HAYS NAMED HUBS MANAGER
Hays Succeeds Dr. Da Hsuan Feng as General Manager of the Nations First Smart Region
(VALLEY FORGE, PENN) December 4, 2000 Brian J. Hays, SAIC senior vice president, has been named as the new general manager of the HUBS (Hospitals, Universities, Businesses and Schools) initiative. Hays will succeed Dr. Da Hsuan Feng who has accepted a position at The University of Texas at Dallas.
Hays has served as a deputy group manager for the past three years and has been responsible for oversight of several SAIC programs, including the HUBS project. Prior to joining SAIC, Hays was president of Advanced Access, Inc.
"I am pleased and excited to have the opportunity to further the development of the HUBS program on a day to day basis," Hays said. "Under the initiative and guidance of Dr. Feng, HUBS has grown from an idea to a multi-million dollar effort with medical, education and business programs touching innumerable organizations in the four-state region of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The task in the coming years is to build on the vision of Da Hsuan Feng and Congressman Weldon, so that HUBS becomes a critical component of the of information technology infrastructure in this region."
Feng has been the general manager of the HUBS project since its inception in 1997. In addition to serving as an SAIC vice president, Feng is the M. Russell Wehr Chair Professor of Physics at Drexel University (on leave). Feng originally developed the HUBS project with SAIC and the support of Rep. Curt Weldon, chairman of the Subcommittee on Research and Development of the U.S. House of Representatives Armed Services Committee.

The HUBS project is creating the nations first wide-area "smart region" by enhancing communications and improving the economic and intellectual climate for communities and governments in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. SAIC is the lead systems integrator and program manager for HUBS.
Through the HUBS initiative, users will be able to send, retrieve and share information, and collaborate by accessing common tools such as those used for data mining and data warehousing. Utilizing existing information technology (IT) infrastructures, SAIC is developing directly and encouraging the development and implementation of the projects software, middleware and hardware.
